There are at least a million reasons to love, love, love Betty White, especially if you've been around as long as some of the HorN humans... Oy Vey!!!

In the 1960's there were her regular appearances, and hosting duties on Password with then husband Alan Luden, as well as guest spots on most of the Hautest game shows of the day, including To Tell the Truth, I Got A Secret and the list goes on and on.

Then came the 1970's when Betty created the first of her two iconic television characters Sue Ann Nivens The (sassy) Happy Homemaker on the 70's sitcom sensation The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Then came our favorite decade the 80's (with regard to the career of BW that is) and we all know what the 80's gave us The Golden Girls,and Rose Nyland. Rose Nyland, was kind of like the mom we all wanted, super sweet, a bit gullible, a great storyteller and best of all a great cook. Who can forget those awesome Swedish delights she was always whipping up for Sophia, Blanche and Dorothy...yummy!!!

Then there's piece de resistance of her star-spangled career, last months hosting gig on SNL, anyone that saw it knows there is nothing to say but... Brava Betty!!!

Yet in spite of all that, the things we love most about BW are perhaps the things she's least known for. BW was one of the earliest and most tireless animal rights and welfare advocates in Hollywood. Her passion for all things animal is said to have begun in the early 1970s, while she was both producing and hosting the syndicated series, The Pet Set, which spotlighted celebrities and their pets.

Over the years BW has worked with a number of animal organizations, including the Los Angeles Zoo Commission, the Morris Animal Foundation, and Actors & Others for Animals.

As of 2009, White is the president emerita of the Morris Animal Foundation, where she has served as a trustee of the organization since 1971. She has been a member of the board of directors of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association since 1974. Additionally, White also served the zoo association as a Zoo Commissioner for eight years.

According to the Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Garden's "ZooScape" White has been pretty generous with her money as well as her time, having donated nearly $100,000 to the Zoo in the month of April 2008 alone.
